When I try to change/hide/freeze a layer in "select layer dialog box" nothing happens. I cant check the boxes... What do I have to do to chanche values in checkboxes in here?
Normally you just have to click on one of the boxes. The first gets a check mark, indicating it is the active layer. The second shows an H for "hidden" and the last an F for "frozen".

I'm encountering the same problem. I am attempting to make the test map along side the tutorial for "Parrot Death Island", and at the point of hiding the grid, the software refuses to cooperate with me like it does in the video. I've read that when others have encountered errors like this they say that I should restart the program. This not only did not resolve the problem, but created additional problems. Not only does the grid refuse to hide, but I know have random landmasses overlaying the terrain above them. I looked at the order of the sheets and layers and they have not been changed from the defaults used in the tutorial video except for the grid - which as done in the video - was moved just above symbols. Please help.
Also, take a look at the top right. Once, I had exited the software and reopened it, the software decided to place some of the landmasses overlaying the terrain, texts, and any and all other entities - thus covering them altogether. However, the rest of the map is not like this. Any ideas what has happened here or how I can fix it? Any ideas on how to keep it from happening again? Luckily this is just me following the tutorial video as best as I can, and not me working on a project. So it is not a big deal if I need to delete it and start from scratch if the error is on my part.
Any help would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated. Thanks!

You can't hide the active layer. Select another layer to be the active one first (the first checkbox), and you should be able to hide it.

The landmass is probably on the wrong sheet. Use Change properites on it, and move it to the LAND sheet. The reason why you didn't see this until you restarted the program is because CC3(+) will temporarily add new stuff you draw to the top, to avoid a time-consuming redraw operation each time you place something. But once the map is redrawn for any reason, everything will appear in their true order. You can use the List command on the landmass to see what sheet it is currently on.
