how to make clouds or whisps for my swamp

I've created a nice little swamp that I'd like to add an effect or whatever that looks like whisps of mist or fog in the swamp. Any ideas?

I would add a new sheet, draw the wisps of mist as white, smooth polygons, and the apply strong transparency and blur effects to the sheet.
