CD3 Flat houses and shadowing

Is it at all possible to mimic the Middle East house symbols? I gather they're relatively simple flat-roofed houses with Darktile/Medtile fills...
But what about the shadow on the inside of the roof; is it possible to replicate this effect? I have tried everything I can think of and to no avail.

I don't even know if I should try doing it in the house settings themselves or as an effect proper.

    After a few hours of fiddling around, I noticed I could more or less replicate it if I exploded the houses and sent the flat-roof tile to its own sheet.

    This gave birth to a new question, though... is it possible to add top-symbols/frills to flat-roofed/middle-east style houses?
