Creating Detailed Version of Land Mass
Just a neophyte to the Campaign Cartographer and REALLY love this program. Probably the best buy second only to the Core books themselves! I also want to apologize ahead of time if this Discussion has already been covered, but I'm not sure what to search for to find out how to do this.
I have a map that is a collection of islands, I can't think of the size off of the top of my head right now.
The island in question has a symbol of a hamlet that is 1 in size, and it takes up about half of the size of the island.
Seeing as I cannot simply zoom in and create details (since they would certainly not show up if printed out) I want to create another zoomed in, detailed map.
What I have done so far is simply select the island, copied it to clipboard, and pasted it to a new map. Obviously I need to enlarge it. I'm having trouble getting it to fit correctly though. How can I find the size of the object to create a map with the same dimensions to fit the Island snuggly? I also found a way to "smooth" the outline of the island so it does not look odd.
Am I on the right track? Is there more I could be doing that I don't know about?
On a side note: The larger map is a nautical chart; what are those lines that branch out from a point in 360 degrees? I've looked at the Mercator maps and seen them, and they don't seem to be Latitude and Longitude. What are they, and how do I determine where I should place them?

- In your original map, use Info > Distance to work out how large your new map should - roughly - be.
- Create a new map from the map wizard, using this size.
- Now copy the island from the old map into the new.
Those lines on the Mercator maps are so-called navigation lines (actually rhumb lines). In real-life they were used to aid navigation on the chart, marking compass directions from certain points. In our fictitious maps they are mainly used for decoration.
For a real-world example, see here.
I read somewhere about the rhumb lines, but was still doubtful if what I had found was that for certain.
I suppose it would be smart to make these from near ports or islands?
Also, how would you suggest I make them in CC3?
