Running CC2-Pro under Win7 64-bit

Has anybody had any success running CC2-Pro under 64-bit versions of Windows 7?

Yes, I know it's an odd question. Yes, I am running CC3 with all available add-ons.

But I'd like to be able to run the CC2/Harn mapping tools, which only work under CC2.

I've installed CC2-Pro, and by setting the compatibility to WIn98, I can use it to open maps of its era.

What I can't do is create new maps wih it - the template diaogue window opens, but then hangs - I can't select a template.

Athough I have versions of Win7 which will run under WinXP mode, my hardware doesn't support it.

If the template dialog is the only problem, you can just open the template via the File -> Open dialog. Just change the filetype in the dialog to CC2 FCT Template, and browse to c:\cc2\Templates to find the templates. Then immediately use Save As, make sure the file type is Campaign Cartographer 2 FCW Drawing and save it somewhere. This ensures that you don't accidentally overwrite the template with a complete drawing.

This procedure accomplishes exactly the same result as using the New option to select a temple. A CC2/CC3 template is nothing other than a standard map with a different extension, which is why you can do it this way.

  • I have found my copy of CC2 Pro and loaded it on my Windows 7 64Bit system. The program loads fine. However I cannot create a new map. the screen comes up to select the background and I am unable to actually select anything. Does anyone have any suggestions (other than upgrade to CC3)? Thanks!

Did you try my suggestion above, using File-> Open as a workaround?

You can also simply execute the TEMPLATE command. This will bring up a regular file open dialog, then select the desired template (no preview though). Then execute the NEW command to actually start a new map on the selected template. (This was the old way of doing it, before the template browser, except there were toolbar buttons for those commands back then)
  • Monsen,

Thank you for the suggestion. The template tries to load then I get the windows error "Fcw32.exe has stopped working" then the system tries to find a solution/recover. When this fails, Windows closes CC2 Pro.

again thank you for the suggestion!

    Kind Regards!

hmm... Since Templates are really nothing more than regular maps, you can always try using windows explorer to browse to the Templates directory inside your CC3 installation directory, copy the desired template from there to somewhere else, then rename the template to the standard map file extension (*.fcw), then finally double click to open it in CC2. Dunno if this makes a difference, but it is worth a shot.
