Cosmo 3 Draw Hull tool

I am probably missing something simple, but the ToUM doesn't cover Cosmo 3.

When using the Draw Hull tool, how do you make curved hulls?

  • I'm messing with that same issue right now, since i'm a new user.

The way i have done it so far is draw it out first by putting in a lot of points along the lines to make the rough outline. I then add points along the lines to smooth out the rough spots. It's certainly NOT perfect, and if anyone has another (i.e., easier) way to do it, i'd be all over it :-)

Let me know if you find a better way.
  • I hear you. That was what I was trying to avoid.

It seems to me there has to be a better way than roughing and adding many points. I have yet to see a ships hull that is square and a hull tool that will give you both sides of the hull but only in straight lines is pretty much useless.

There has to be a super secret command that allows for curves.

    arc

I came up with some hull changes for my starship site. I wanted to make curved corners for the main hull. Instead of a square hull, or a circular hull.

So I drew a square grid, with the corners being made using Arc.

the bottom of the 2 maps.

I have added the CC3 file to the above page. The numbers in each area are deck plans I'll draw, or have drawn. The upper drawing on the linked page is map section 2. I have blank areas in there as I haven't decided what to put there.

Sorry, I don't remember which template I used. Likely city or overland since I didn't feel like spending lots of time removing everything I didn't need from the Cosmo deck plans.
  • But you are not describing using the hull draw tool. That is manually drawing things using separate lines and arc's.

The hull draw tool allows you to draw a hull shape in one series of actions. If of course the hull is square.

OK I just figured it out. When you select the Draw Hull command the first click is the origin point, from there you when you move the point it draws two equal lines radiating from the start point. A second click established the mid point. Now hold the CTRL key and continue. The "triangle" will round out as the side assume a curved shape until you click a third point and end.

Sweet, i'll try it today! Thank you!
  • I don't use the tools all the time. Sometimes I find another way to do what I want to do.
  • I can understand that, but something bugs me about spending money on a tool and then just not using it.

    Self torture I guess :)
  • Spence,

Just an FYI that i tried your method out last night messing with various ship hull designs and i LOVE it! Thank you very much for your help with this.

  • I *LOVE* the new Hull Draw tool!
Has anyone else noticed issues with it not quite working right when you select certain ship templates, though?
