Noob question

Ok, this seems like a dumb question but I can't figure it out. I have read the manual but I haven't watched the tutorial videos. How do you select an object that you have placed, to edit or delete it? I'm using the Dungeon creator, and I placed a room down, but now I want to change its size. The manual indicates that I need to select the appropriate layer, which makes sense. I think I did that though, and I can't select the room to resize it or delete it.

Have you clicked the Edit or Erase buttons first, and then clicked on the room you want to work with? Every action you perform on an object has to be specified before you select the object. (This may seem counterintuitive but the way CC3 works, it's actually very helpful.) There is no way to select an object without already having an action ready in the queue to perform on it.
  • Ok, I did that and was able to reshape the floor of a room, but not the walls. I made the "Walls" layer active but I still can't reshape the walls.

If you want to adjust only the walls, you will need to do one of two things, depending on how your map is set up:

    1) If the floors and walls are on different sheets, you can Hide the floor sheet and then work with just the walls.

    2) If the floors and walls are on the same sheet, or you need to see the floors as a guide for moving the walls, Freeze the layer on which the floors appear, and when you select the walls the floors will not be selected with them

Making a layer active (i.e, checkmarked) is not sufficient to avoid grabbing things that aren't on that layer, unless you either hide the other layers or Freeze them (or at least hide or freeze the layers that have objects too close to the object you're trying to work with).

If you're having trouble actually selecting the walls: freeze or hide the floors, select the tool you want and then make a dragbox around the wall you want to adjust. Check the command line/info bar (bottom left of the screen) to see how many objects you have selected. If it's a standard wall, and you're only working with one of them at a time, it should say "Selected entities (1 picked)". Then do the right-click > "Do It" as usual. If you do this and you end up with an unexpected number of entities selected, go back and make sure you have all the necessary layers or sheets hidden or frozen.
  • Ok, I was able to get the room resized as I wanted. Thanks for your help. This software has a pretty steep learning curve, but I like it so far.
  • Yup, but don't worry. Once you learn it, you can turn out almost 2 thousands maps like I have.
