ideas for a starport grand concourse ?

Here is a small png of the starport. The bldg labelled A, B, C, D, E, F is the item... it is 24 miles across.

I don't expect to make the Grand Concourse all one map.

I would like some ideas on stairways, moving sidewalks, baggage areas, small buses to take passengers across the building from one end to another.

Any suggestions ?

The web site it will go on: http://blue.cwahi.net/

Yup, my old Nessie of Marsport site. i have been thinking about making it less silly and more of a 'Cities on Mars' site.

Thanks.

  • Oh, the small black line on the right side coming out of the D part of the building is a 12-lane highway. 12 lanes in each direction.

  • A large project, to be sure. I like it. While the immense size of the station (ca 39 km) limits the meaningful detail, I still thought up few things; Food for thought, if you will.

As this is THE logistics center of a world (or so I believe), one would estimate that all passangers and all the interplanetary and (interstellar) cargo would move through this station. Since people like to be safe and propably do not like long rides in a bus, I'd add some sort of additional buildings with landing tubes, through which the passangers could move in to the station, similar to modern airports and harbours.

Why, one might ask. Because I envision this type of arrangement a hive of activity; ships coming and going, thousands of ktons of cargo to move, thousands upon thousands of tons of fuel which I dub "highly volatile". The cargo won't move without cranes and some sort of logistic system. The logistic system has to be able to move the cargo fast and reliably. Maglev train around the circumference, possibly multiple of such trains? The passangers might want to move forward in the world. Airport, perhaps?

The fuel has to be brought in from somewhere; Cargo has to move in and out of the station. Even with 24-lane blacktop and monsterous future Freighliner Trucks, I'd still make do with maglev trains and possibly a regular harbour, if there's enough water on the planet to form fluid oceans. (If this is on Mars, obviosly not)

Ships need maintenance; if the spaceport is resonable advanced, there might be a service area, slightly adjacent to the station; People tend to worry, if they see starships under maintenance. Would you trust a ship that you just saw in the drydock, being welded back together after a mishap with shoals?

I'd also say that your starport of this magnitude would have to have some sort of assortment method. Corporate Heighliners with massive cargoholds would take precedence; Thus the... starship tarmac might be separated in to "high cost" and "low cost" areas, closer to the actual station you are, higher the berthing costs. This might create a circular areas around the main structure, with their separate and similar constructions...

    Anyways, very interesting project.

Yeah, I think the Maglev train is a good idea. This isn't the Mars in the next orbit out... it has water filled canals and a few small oceans. I took a color-coded Mars photo put out by NASA, and decided the blue areas are water. I'll attach it below.

Interstellar sounds like a good addition. Places for beingd of different planets, pressure, special atmospheres, climates, etc. special vehicles for them to.

Repair areas would have gigantic cranes of different types.

    Fuel could be placed underground.

I think Maglev cars and busses could travel at high speed to Marsport. Make them streamlined, zoooooom.

This station is a major center on Mars, but it isn't the city. I'll attach that in another post.

The area around Marsport and the spaceport. Huge city.

The Old Town is an area of huts, too small to show up on this drawing.
