FTPro - Altering river courses?

I have gotten most of my world built and am starting on the rivers. For the most part they look good, but in areas where there have been basin fills the rivers just run in straight lines. What I'd like to do is start manipulating the terrain underneath, creating small hills and valleys that would force the rivers to flow more realistically around the terrain. However, my first few attempts with putting some small hills in the way didn't seem to work, the rivers did not change path. Is there a tried-and-true method for customizing rivers in FTPro, or is it better to export the map to an external program like Photoshop and drawing your own using the FT rivers as a template? It's possible I just didn't make the hills large enough for FT's river generating code to notice them.

Thanks for any feedback. I feel completely noobish continually asking questions like this. ;) But I will get better, promise.

If FT is generating rivers across a basin then the rivers will be straight across the basin. Doing basin fill followed by global noise and another basin will rough things up a bit and should make the rivers wind around a bit.

Another option is to export the height field as an MDR file and use Wilbur to do a little bit of touchup on it. a2area over at Cartographer's Guild has had some pretty good success with this technique. Wilbur won't generate the vector rivers for CCx, but it will place rivers on a raster representation of the terrain.
