copying a landmass

I'm new to CC3 and created my first map with help of the tutorial videos and the essentials pdf. I then downloaded the update and discovered the black and white style which I would prefer to do my map in however I want to keep the same landmass from my original map. I have tried importing my original, but cannot figure out how to import the landmass alone. I also tried copy and pasting but that didn't work at all. I read a post about this topic already and those were the two solutions but I just can't figure out how to do those. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton.

  • Insert the original map into the second one. Place it near the second one.

Edit the original and move what remains into position on the second map.

The second method is a bit harder, for me anyway.

Insert the original map and place it on top of the second map. Hidding/showing and freezing/thawing layers will enable you to remove what you don't want on the resulting map.

A short explanation, but may require experimentation as you learn how.

I use this fairly often these days, and it works well once you get used to it. I have used both methods above.

I had the same problem, some weeks ago. I just deleted everything but the landmass borders ( i made the landmass hollow, for being easier to copy later), then copy the landmass into the new map. As i wanted some properties into the new landmass, i actually drawed a new landmass in top of the copied one. It worked well.

Huh, slowly people, slowly, don't scare the horses. This is actually fairly simple.

    - Open both the new and the old map in seprate CC3 instances.
    - Make sure that on the old map, the current layer is Common (that's a workaround for a current clipboard bug).

    - Use ctrl-c to only copy the landmass over to the new map. You can do that by either hand-picking it with the pick cursor, or by selecting by layer "COAST/SEA".
    - If the maps are the same size use "0,0" for both the origin and the insertion point.

That should have put your orignal landmass into the new map. Now for converting it to the new look...

    - Right-click the Change Properties button and select "Change like drawing tool".
    - Right-click and select the "Land, Default" tool.
    - Select your landmass, right-click, Do It.

Voila, you should have your landmass in the new style. Hope that helps.
