City Designer 3 question/comment

I just upgraded from CD2 to CD3, and saw that the high-resolution bitmaps are a separate download. It took me less than ten minutes to download the program itself, but the high-rez bitmaps took an hour.

I have a cable/broadband internet connection. Is this normal?

The High Resolution bitmaps package is over 4 times the size of the rest of the add-on, so yes, I would say that is pretty normal. This is why the High Res bitmaps was split from the rest of the download, to allow people with slow download speeds to get the program itself in a reasonable time (Since you don't need the high res bitmaps to use the addon).
  • Well, my computer locks up every time I try to open the hi-rez add-on. I think I'll just skip it until the hard copy shows up in a few weeks. It says something about increasing the file size in my configuration file, and I don't mess around with that stuff.

No guarantees that waiting for the dvd will solve anything, but it might, since it contains a different installer setup. You'll manage fine without the High Res textures in the meantime, as they are primarily only used for very close zooms.
  • I have to say, after playing around with CD3 and the DD3 structure layout command, I am quite impressed. MY maps even look good. (LOL)
