Creating Custom Symbol Catalogs (FSC) in CC3 from existing Catalogs

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out if I can make a custom catalog by just copying selected symbols out of various other catalogs - i.e. so as to have a "favourites" style catalog of the main symbols I use regularly...?

I've searched the tutorials and the manual, etc... but can't seem to find anything. I wanted to combine PNG based symbols and lien drawn ones in a single catalog if possible...

Many TIA,

John

    Start a new map.
Then insert all the symbols you you want into this map.
Finally, go to Symbols -> Symbol manager. This dialog shows all the symbols you have inserted into the template. Select the symbols you wish to put into the new catalog (Click the first one, then hold down shift and click the last one to select all, or use the control key to individually select multiple items). Then click the "Save as Catalog" button to save the selected symbols into a new catalog.

(You do not need to save the map afterward, it just serves as a temporary workspace)
  • Great - Thanks Monsen - Much Appreciated. That's what was throwing me - sounds far too easy!!

    Many Thanks.

    You're welcome.

Note that you can also make a symbol catalog by renaming a map file extension (.fcw) to the symbol catalog extension (.fsc). This will end up with a symbol catalog containing all the symbols that were present in the map (Or to be precise, all the symbols that have ever been used in a map, since erasing a symbol doesn't remove the definition from the map)
  • Thanks Monsen - all exactly what I needed. I've had CC2 Pro, and now CC3 for several years but hardly used - finally getting into some regular use now!
  • But 'purge symbols' will erase symbols not used in that map, but were used and erased frmo the map.

'Purge symbols' is in the Symbols menu.
