Rivers and Coast

I am trying to make a map of Spain, and have started on the rivers. I want them to look like the real rivers, but they seem to have a mind of their own. Using the default river logo I start them from the estuary and try to make them follow the route inland. But after a very short time they shoot off on their own! I have a vague idea that they may be making for the nearest coast?

I have tried to overcome this by using a road as a river, and it works ok. But it looks strange where it meets the coast.

There is probably a simple answer, but I can't find it.

Any suggestions welcome.

make sure snap is off, lower right corner of CC3. The button with the word 'Snap' on it shouldn't look like it is pushed in.

That is the first thing I would check.

The tool probably has the Attach setting activated (to attach the river to the coast when started). As you draw, you're hitting other entities, and the river attaches to them, moving in strange directions.

After starting the tool, simply depress the ATTACH button in the lower right of the screen. You should now be able to freely draw that river where you want it to go.
