Quickstart Guide

I am new to CC3 and working my way through the Quickstart guide.

On the section dealing with roads it gives the following instruction:

Right click on the Roads icon
CC3 lists all drawing tools which include “Map Road” in their description.
Choose Map road, Straight. The prompt reads Path: First Point

When I right click on the Roads icon there are two boxes with a curved dotted line in each. The first is titled “Road, Default” and the second “Road, Double Dash”. There is no mention of “Map road, Straight”

Should there be a "Map road, Straight"?

If so where do I find it?

Comments

  • When I right click on the road drawing tool i see: road area dust, road area pebbles, road area shaded, road curved 10', road curved 20', road curved current width, road default, road grey yelllow line 10', road straight 10', road straight 20', and road straight current width.

That is when I select CD, city designer icon.

The Quickstart Guide starts off on Overland Maps, then click Landmass. It covers zoom and then comes on to Add Roads. Then it says Choose Map Road Straight.

I was not told to select CD, city designer icon. Is that part of the Dungeon option instead of Overland Maps?

CD (City designer) is a completely separate addon, and not part of DD. I don't know why JimP brought that up.

I believe the "Map Road" in the quick-start guide is probably an error, as all roads should start with "Road, ". As long as you based your map on the "CC3 standard overland" choice in the wizard, there should be a "Road, Straight" there though.
If not, try reinstalling the latest update (Currently Update 8)
  • Actually, his original post says CC3, so I guessed as to which add-on he was talking about.

    JimP

I only have the basic CC3 and am just working my way through the first tutorial on the Quickstart Guide.

    Monsen

I was following the first part of the Quickstart Guide when I found this problem. I don't know enough about CC3 to know whether it is a problem or not. I did notice on the top of the page it says CC2, so I wonder if the Quickstart Guide was written for CC2?

I checked the update page but could not find Update 8. Would the updates not be included in the CC3 download?

I have sent a mail to tech support to ask them what to do.

Thanks to you both for your help

    Paul

No. It needs to be downloaded and installed seperately. The Update is available on your Registration Page, provided you have registered CC3 (Which you have to do to get it installed).

Yes, the guide was originally written for CC2, but it has been updated for CC3. The title is just a remnant which PF obviously forgot to update, and the same goes for the "Map Road, ", which now is only "Road, ". This shouldn't really cause you any problems, but make sure to install the Update, as you obviously do miss a few road styles which should be there.

    Hi Monsen

I have downloaded Update 8 and it seems to have solved the problem with roads. There are now more options, including the thicker road which was missing before.

I wonder if you might be able to help with one other thing.

I am trying to create maps similar to those which a friend made some time ago. They include a symbol for towns and cities which is a small circle in the middle of the road for normal towns, and one like a cog for fortfied cities. Similar to the sort of thing you see on old maps.

He does not remember where he got these symbols, and things it might have been from CC2.

Any idea how I might create or find these on CC3?

Might it be these? (Click the image to get to the map library to download them)

Its not quite the same, but I think it might be ok. I have downloaded them, but can't find them in CC3! How do I access them when using CC3?

Click the "Open Symbol Catalog" button located immediately above the symbol catalog itself, then browse for the catalog you just downloaded (Remember to unzip it first, CC3 cannot access content stored in a zip file)

As a side note, you can open a map as a symbol catalog. So if you have the original map file with the symbols you want, just rename the extension to .fcs (the extension for symbol catalogs) from .fcw (the extension for a normal map file), and open it, following the procedure above. (Note that you MUST have the original map file itself. An exported image won't do)

You can download some Greyhawk-style symbols for cities and other settlements from the Profantasy Map Library:
