Fractal Terrains & CC3

Just need a quick yes / no answer to this...from reading the product info on Fractal Terrains, it appears that you can generate a world and then use CC3 to add cities, forests, roads etc to it. True / false? My plan is to use Astrosynthesis in conjunction with FT to create planetary maps, and then add detail to those maps in CC3 as necessary.

Thanks for the input, and apologies if this is a question with an abundantly obvious answer!

    True.

You can export a FT planet to a CC3 file, which can then be edited as any other CC3 map.
  • Thanks for the clarification, Monsen. :)

  • OK, been having issues myself with this. How exactly? I am new to using both programs and when I change the .fcw ending of a FT map to match the one for a CC3 map, it doesn't open, or on the rare occasion it opens, it looks like garbage and will not allow me to redraw it as to work on it.
Some help would be most appreciated.

CC3 cannot read FT files directly, and renaming a file doesn't change it's contents, it will still be a FT file, but with a wrong extension, which causes windows to open it up in the wrong program.

To export it from FT, all you need to do is to select File -> Save CC2 file...
This will allow you to set some options for the export. Select one of the settings from the list, edit if desired, the hit "Export World"
  • Ok, so basically, I cannot export the whole map as one image? If that is how it is, wow I wasted my money on Fractal Terrains.

You can certainly export the whole map as one image to CC2, with loads of options. You just can't do it by renaming an ft file.
  • Unfortunately I don't own CC2, I have CC3. I have tried opening them using the CC2 option, and get grids and all kinds of changes done to the map that I cannot seem to undo. A shame to waste the coin on the program, wish it had a notice about not being compatible with CC3.
  • You can still import the CC2 file, that FT exports, into CC3. I do it all the time.

The additional objects depends on the export setting you choose when you exported it from FT. And no matter what FT puts into the file, you can always use CC3 to delete whatever you don't want as well. I recommend playing around with the different export settings, until you find one you like. Remember you can create your own or edit an existing one. This will let you get rid of the grid, and everything else. And if you still get something you don't want. just delete it inside C3 afterwards.
