human tracks in Winter Trails (I think)

They’ve disappeared. I had them on the map yesterday but when I went to add more today, all I get is the 0.0000 magenta line. I have repaired the annual installation, but nothing happened. Anyone else have a suggestion as to what I might try. I’m loath to ’import’ another lot of fills just for one symbol as I’ve already ’imported’ two drawfills.

The line you draw to guide the placement of the footprints falls on the PATH sheet to keep it separate from the footprint symbols and make it easier to delete when you're done with it, but the footprints themselves fall on the SYMBOLS Tracks sheet.

In your map that sheet was really high up the list, meaning it was underneath most other things. I had to move it down to just below CLIFF snow at base to make them visible.

If you put them on the map and saved it that way, they should still be there somewhere.

Have you changed any sheet ordering, or drawn new polygons on any sheet that might have covered them up?

  • I did move them, but that’s when they disappeared! I’m messing around with both your Winter templates before actually starting the L,W, & W. I’ve found some Schley footprints but they're barefoot and they’re pairs of footprints - not drawn along a line, and therefore aren’t going to sink into the snow. Windows search has pulled yours up, but they don’t show up on the sheet PATH, only the magenta line is there.

Can you upload the FCW for us please? I'm curious to understand what's happening here.

  • i'm curious too.

  • It hasn't worked for me in so much as the line has stayed on the map and the prints are tiny!

Check that your default symbol scale is correct, and that everything else has been pasted at the right scale too.

The line on the PATH sheet is white. You have to hide most of the rest of the map to see it to be able to delete it. Or you could just leave the PATH sheet hidden at all times.

  • I’m getting a magenta line, not a white one, Sue. I’m going to combine both your Winter templates after breakfast, but which way round do you suggest I  do it?

Once the prints are down you don't need the path, so just delete it.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by combining templates, but it's perfectly fine to start with one template and use symbols and fills from the other template, as long as you remember to pretend copy a file of the other style into the one you are working on for the fills.

EDIT: If you are using the drawing tools from the imported style you may also need to copy across the sheet effects on any new sheets that are created when you use those drawing tools.
