I have never seen that sort of error before, but I may be able to make some suggestions that might reduce the problems somewhat. I recommend making a backup copy of your map before doing any significant modifications.
It looks like the problem is in the editing portions of the system. The fact that the vertical bars extend into the continental shelves seems to suggest that the problem might be in the prescale offset editing layer. Selecting the general area and smoothing it might reduce the problem somewhat. You might also be able to select the area and force the editing value to 0, which will cause the problem to disappear but will also lose any edits in that area. Feathering your selection after making it will reduce the extreme step at the edge of the selected area.
Thank you for your response Another note, these lines appear on all maps generated and run north south the entire length of the map top to bottom Global smooth does indeed reduce the line but then I get a wide band that crosses the entire planet ( generated a 0% water map to test it) With a global smooth set to strenth 5 it looks like this
What is the longitude of the bands? Is it right around -180 to +180 (that is, is this the seam at the abck of the world?) What version of FT are you using? Hold down the Shift key and do Help>>About to get the full version number.
Version is 2.3.0.8 And yes this is apparently the seam/edge of the world at the 180/-180 line Is there a way to mitigate this as when centering my map, it almost always seems to run through a continent
The basic world shape is determined by the fractal function (algorithm, world number, and a few other parameters). Editing information is used to adjust that basic generated fractal function to get your desired result. There is a setting in FT for North Pole Position (I don't have FT in front of me right now so I'm not sure exactly where it is in the World Settings property sheet). This setting only rotates the fractal function so if you've done a lot of editing it won't help you. If you want a polar continent or one that goes all the way around the world then I'm afraid this setting won't help you much.
As a general rule, you want to put 0 degrees longitude and 0 degrees latitude in the center of your whole-world image if possible in order to avoid some of the not-quite-correct functions of FT with regards to the editing seam. Open up the map projection dialog, select equirectangular as the projection, and set both latitde and longitude to 0. Then use the north pole setting to put as little land across the split of the map as you can reasonably get.
ProFantasy tech support can point you to a beta version of FT without the problem painting across the -180/+180 line.
I must have missed that discussion from last year. Sometimes I go for long periods without checking this forum and I guess that was one of those times.
For general FT usage suggestions I also recommend reading http://www.ridgenet.net/~jslayton/CGTutorial/index.html as a general course. It won't help in this particular situation, but it offers some suggestions for putting things exactly where you want them.
OK this is actually related to the whole moving the north pole to change the view issue ive discovered If you open a new map, and make changes/edit the map Then move the north pole, so that certain parts of continents are no longer crossing the edge of the map All changes you made prior to moving the pole are forgotten, the map appears as it did when it first loaded You can then move the pole back to 0,0 And all the changed you origionaly made reappear, but any changed you made after moving the pole, are gone
The changes are likely still there, but they may have been moved far enough undersea that the changes become imperceptible. It's why they reappear when you move the pole back to its original position.
It is a known feature that the world editing does not follow along when moving the pole.

I did a search of the forums, someone else had the same issue, and no one seems to have responded
