Hard time with trim

I try to trim some hill to my landmass border.
Nothing very new.
BUT I can't select the hills to trim:
1/I manage to select the border
2/when I click on the hill, the selection is canceled, nothing is selected and I see in the command bar I reverted to TRIMTO.
3/To add insult to injury, CC3+ select the hill, but I think, as the shape to trim to...
4/TL,DR: after 5 tries, I came here for help.

The hills are a bitmap symbol. Trims only work on vector lines and polygons
If you want the hill to fit in that piece of land try scaling it down just a tiny bit.
