Switching from Non-visual to Visual when moving/resizing an object

Well... sigh. I have somehow switched from visual to non-visual when trying to move and resize objects, and for the life of me, I cannot remember how to switch it back. I am drawing a big ol blank!
I have been reading and searching for over an hour now (on the forum, the help manual, and Monsen's "Commands of the Week"), but I cannot find a solution to this most basic problem. After messing around with this program for well over 5 years, you'd think I would know more about the foundational functions, but I must give up the rambling search and humbly ask for help!

Try hitting Tab during the move/resize operation.
