Can the style of an existing map be changed?
Hi,
I created a map in the Annual Modern Journeys style and drew some coastlines. I decided I don't like the style that much, but I don't want to re-do the coastlines. My map has no symbols on it yet.
Can the style be changed? I clicked the Drawing Properties icon in the toolbar and it let me switch the style, but it didn't seem to change anything at all on the map. The symbols palette is also still showing the symbols from the Annual Modern Journeys style.
I'm a rank beginner as you may be able to tell and I don't have much invested in this map, really. If I have to start over from scratch it won't be a big problem. But I'd still like to know the answer so I can learn about the capabilities of the tool and how to use it.
Thanks,

I found a way to get kind of close using the information from these two forum comments:
I used the Info menu and selected my coastline, and used "Save As..." on the List window's control menu to create a file holding the contents of the Info window.
Then I opened that file in a text editor, cut off all the lines holding anything but nodes, and used regular expression search and replace to pull out just the coordinate pairs. I added a line saying "poly" at the beginning, a blank line at the end, and saved it as a ".scr" file.
Then I created a new map in a different style and ran the SCRIPT command, selecting my file. It recreated the shape of my coastline in the new map ... unfortunately it's completely black. But I can probably get it working with some more tinkering.
There is a way to change the style. However, if all you want is the coastline, then there is an easier way than converting the style.
Save your map as a jpg. Then start a new map in the new style you want. Create a new layer. Import the jpg of the map into the new layer. Use the trace command. https://rpgmaps.profantasy.com/leveraging-the-new-features-of-cc3-update-22/
Remy did a video some time ago (Changing Map Styles):
Thanks, that does look like a useful technique. Unfortunately I couldn't make it work. I'm sure I did something wrong. When I got to the step where it says hide the BITMAP sheet and you should see your polygon, I hid the BITMAP sheet and saw nothing at all (all other layers, except the RELIEF/COUNTOURS sheet where I wanted the polygon to go, were already hidden).
I watched this video. I think the "Change like Draw Tool" is more or less exactly what I need. It also gave me confidence that if I just copy the land mass from the old map I wouldn't be stuck with artifacts from the old map that could never get cleaned up. Thanks!
Some templates, particularly older ones, may go to the wrong sheet. Of course, it could just be me.
Thanks, Jim. I tried this several more times last night. I showed all layers, and I used the Info -> List tool, and right-clicked and hit All, then Do It to make sure it was going to list everything, and the polygon still isn't there. I edited the bitmap in Gimp to add an alpha channel and set the background transparent thinking that might be the issue, no change. I didn't expect it to be because when I used Draw -> Insert File to add the bitmap I could see that the ocean underneath was showing up through the background of the bitmap but I was trying everything I could think of.
TRACED is currently a bit broken.
There is a remedy though, which Joe Slayton put forward in this comment here. Basically you are fixing a bug with CONTOURSM to repair TRACED. So you can get TRACED to work for you if you are willing to do this. I recommend saving a backup of the CC3PlusCfg.xml file before you start.

Thanks, Sue, that did the trick.
You're welcome :)
