Cosmographer Deck Plans

Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately this is a really basic question and I apologise for it being so elementary. I'm trying to use Cosmographer 2 (with an update to work with CC3) to create some deck plans. I intend to use the predfined templates to do this.
The templates load and the title indicates 'click here to set ship name'. Yet when I do so, either left or right click, I get a box or waiting a command line instruction at the bottom.
What am I doing wrong? I'm not a novice to software and this simple instruction has got me stumped. The Help function says just 'click in the area' and doesn't elaborate any further.
Can anyone advise?

Thanks in advance.

There should be a popup dialog allowing you to set the ship name. I just tested on my install and confirm that it works.
    A few things to try:
    - Did you install the latest patch for CC3. A lot of things has been fixed in the various patches. Currently the latest path is Update 8 (v3.40)
    - When you installed Cosmographer into CC3, did you make sure to install the compatibility update only, and NOT the previous version of the addon at all.
    - Have you tried with a different template. It might be that there is a bug in the template you were trying. Try another, and see if there is any difference.

    Thanks for replying Monsen

I've checked my version of CC3 and its 3.40.
I did a reinstallation of Cosmographer Pro 2 and used the zipped update file on the Profantasy website in the CC3 compatibility updates.
There doesn't appear to be a different template for the style I want to use. Its user defined, I just change the dimensions.
When I double click (or right double click) in the area the template says I get a dialogue box...but its not what I expect you have on your screen..see screenie http://yfrog.com/j2profantasyscreenie1j

    Any other suggestions?

    Cheers,

  • Uhm, hopefully you didn't put Cosmo 2 in the CC3 folder. You would only need the Cosmo compatibility update in the CC3 folder.

    Thanks JimP,

    I've tried your suggestion.
My disc has 3 folders and a readme txt file. I uninstalled Cosmographer again just to be sure. I noticed that some legacy icons are retained in the CC3 interface, so that may be a bug.
Anyway, I used the folder on the disc for CC3 and not CC2. Strangely, CC2 folder contains what I would consider the normal files:Setup.exe, some zipped data files and a few others.
The CC3 folder contains only a cos-cc3-compatability file. But I used this (as that is what the readme file said) and updated with the update from the website.
Still no joy. The default folder for installation is the CC3 folder so now I'm quite confused. Why would I not need to install Cosmo 2 in the CC3 folder and then update it for CC3, as that makes sense to me?
Am I going to have to uninstall the whole shebang just to get this to work? That'll be a real pain as these files take ages to download and unpack..

This is because the cos-cc3-compatibility.exe is the full version of the cosmographer addon. It is NOT an update that updates a previously installed version. (The term "compatibility update" refers to that this is an updated version of an old CC2 addon that has been updated to work with CC3, not that this file will update an already installed previous version)

If you have installed the original CC2 version of Cosmographer into your CC3 folder at any point, you will need to reinstall CC3, as this does mess up your CC3 installation.

Edit: Hold on with the reinstall. I just found there is a bug in the "deckplan, metric" template. The macro for setting the ship name via a click is missing. (Actually, it is missing for the imperial unit template as well, but there the text has been changed to no longer indicate that you should click).
Just use the "Numeric Edit" function to change the text to your ship name instead of clicking on it.
If you use the predefined templates, instead of "choose your own settings", the click to set name should work.

Thanks for the update Monsen. I did a reinstall of CC3 anyhow as I think that I had installed Cosmographer in the CC3 folder anyway.
I've now got the ship name where I want it, thanks to the 'numeric edit' suggestion.
    Thanks for your help guys.

    Cheers,

  • I know this is a really old thread but wasn't sure if I should start a new one with the same issue. It looks like the template still has the same issues and clicking on the "Click Here To Set Ship Name" function isn't working. How do I use the Numeric Edit function? In advance, many thanks!
  • Look on the left side of CC3 for the [#} icon.

Right click and select Numeric Edit from the menu.

Left click on the text you want to edit.

A window will pop up with that text in it.

    Edit the text.

Left click on Okay to close it.

    Save your work.
  • Thank you JimP. Unfortunately the text in the Click here to set ship name isn't something that seems to be something on which I can left-click. It's on the Hyperlinks sheet. I've tried changing to the text sheet and text layer (on the chance that that might work) but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I can place new text on the page and move it on top of the "Click here to set ship name" but all that does is overlay the new text on that text making it illegible. Is there a way to go in and simply delete the existing text that's there (from what it sounds like, though changing the macro or something?) Sorry for the silly question. Today's really the first time I've been able to use the software since I got it a few days ago.
  • Make sure the layers are thawed. If a layer is frozen, that locks he layer and it cannot be edited. Also ctrl-r to refresh the map after an edit.
  • That did it! (Not via the Numeric Edit. Truthfully, not entirely how, but it did it :)) Thanks folks!
