Wilderland Campaign

I'm sharing my Wilderland maps for my upcoming The One Ring 2nd edition campaign here.
First the campaign map of Mirkwood and Rovanion, in the same scale (if not style) as the Eriador map in the rulebook.

And then a detail map of NE Mirkwood and the Dalelands in the Mike Schley Overland style.
Fantastic work, Ralf :)
All those treeeeeeeees!
I think @Ralf may know a thing or two about drawing tools with tree fills...but still, there appear to be quite a few individual symbols as well...
I am doing a map which requires a lot of trees, and so am getting lots of practice using the area and area exclusion tools.
But I still need to add individual trees as well, of course
This of course is the kind of thing you have to do if you don't want to run your RPGs in the default setting the game comes with (it's Eriador, the OTHER side of the Misty Mountains for those who don't have TOR 2e) 😉
I think it is interesting that two very different styles are being used for different scale maps.
Here is an update on the current campaign progress, with the party travelling through Mirkwood on the Elven Path.
You mean you just LET them get across the Enchanted Stream without falling in and asleep? 😉
Hehehe... I had them roll when crossing it, but they made it safely.
That's so awesome!
May I ask how you handle such travels in campaigns? Do you roll for random encounters on the way? In which intervals? I tried that but I found it quite dull after some time...
So far I've mostly followed the journey rules of the game, but instead of always coming up with an obstacle on the fly when the rules call for it (it's more general hazards in this game than random encounters), I do sprinkle in prepared scenes. In this case, the adventure revolves around the journey and already has multiple scenes that take place along the way. I used these instead of the "random" event the journey rules would call for.
I can see that the journey rules will become repetitive and boring if you use them for every single bit of travel and always with the random hazards. So I'll probably will only use them for significant travels and mostly make sure that some story happens along the way.
@Fersus - If you have the solo rules ("Strider Mode") for The One Ring, which are only available as a PDF still, as far as I know, those do add some more journey options which could be adapted for group play, or perhaps would help spark ideas. I've not played TOR yet, but it did strike me when just reading through all the rules (I have everything that Free League have published for it so far) that a lot of the random result tables generally were too short, so would be apt to become repetitive. I like Ralf's use of pre-prepared options along with the random rolls to make things more interesting overall, since as GM, you can't always come up with some worthwhile variant every time the same roll comes up otherwise.
Preparing scenes that align with the story is a good idea! I'll try that next time. Thanks!
I'm working on the next section of the map, it's looking liek I'll have one gigantic map of Mirkwood eventually.
Here is another more parts of my large Wilderland map, the region to the east, between the rivers Carnen and Celduin.
And the latest map: The Withered Heath to the north of Erebor.
One more map from the series, and I've attached the fully assembled maps (so far), as I've switched to working on that directly.
A truly outstanding piece of work Ralf.
I've worked a bit on my Mirkwood map, specifically the NW corner. Here's Northern Mirkwood. Full map in most recent version attached.
I downloaded the Nether Marches MS.FCW file, and it is essentially empty (except for a hidden Journey 1 sheet).
I've reuploaded it, it should be fine again now.
Awesome work @Ralf
If it's not too much, can I ask which asset packs and fonts I need to buy in order to load your maps as you intended? My GM is running this campaign and I would like to print Wilderland MS 4.FCW in large scale for our group (credited to you of course)
You only need to get the base program for this. The map only uses the Mike Schley Overland style from base CC3+ and some of the free monthly symbols that have been published for it. The font used is Aniron.
I do have a newer version available, where I started on the SE corner of the forest, detailing the East Bight.
Masterwork Master Ralf 🤯
I think you missed a tree in Southern Mirkwood!
Yes, that missing tree is SO SO obvious now - just can't help seeing the gap once it has been drawn to my intention.
I fixed that tree! Here is an update to the map to include it. And a little more in the SE corner. ;)
Wow, almost finished. A magnum opus
