How to add a lake ?
Hello.
Here is my problem : I want to draw a little map, with a lake in the middle of a forest. But I don't find how to do it. If I draw it with the sea/coastal tools, as soon as I try to do soething else, my lake dissapears.
Where is there a tool to do that ?

Hi sined :)
Which mapping style are you using? The technique varies between styles. If you aren't sure you can paste a screen shot here on the forum. Even if you haven't really started yet we should be able to tell which style it is by looking at the background fill.

Thank you.
If you open the drawing tools dialog you should see a drawing tool called "River, lake". Pick that tool and draw your lake.
It doesn't work, as soon as I try to select another tool, my lake dissapears :

What do I do wrong ?
You will need to draw your forest around the lake. Some might say to move the RIVERS and COASTLINE sheets down the list of sheets till they are below the SYMBOLS TREES sheet, on which the trees are placed, but that leads to all kinds of other things being out of place further on in the drawing of the map.
If I draw first the lake, then the forest, the result is..... The same.
You need to draw the forest around the lake. The sheets are arranged so that forests will cover up lakes and rivers. Moving things around to make the lake appear on top of the trees will look very bad, because the water will be clipping the treetops in a very unnatural way.
You can either do this manually, or use the exclusion commands to have the trees placed around the lake:
Hy @sined
sometimes I make the lake with a slightly different process.
2 create a sheet called sea II and place it below (in the drawing it will be on top) of sheet land
3 - Select the color of the water you want, lighter or darker. Make sure you are working on Sheet SEA II and not Sheet SEA
4 - draw your lake
5 - Your lake is ready. But note that the edges are "hard".
This is because the SEA II sheet has no effects.
6 - open your SEA II sheet and add the Edge fade inner effect, adjust it according to your preferences.
7- Technically your lake is ready. But if you want to add more details....
Create a new SHEET and name it SYMBOLS TREES GRASS
8 - Select Scrub 2 in the trees section. place them around the lake carefully so the scrub doesn't advance "into the lake" Circle the entire lake, or not, with this SCRUB 2
9 - Refresh your draw
9 you can make a lake using hills or mountains too. previously draw your lake with hills or mountains, place some trees on top (or not).
In the fourth photo, highlighted in red, you can notice the lake edges hard as in the first example (also because Sheet Sea II has no effects yet). This time, if you don't want to add effects, you can simply hide those parts using new tree groups. and the final result will be that of the last image.
