So I haven't actually started the map yet but I wanted to ask some questions before I started. I have read that people feel that cities are the hardest to design. So before I dive into this project I wanted to ask a couple of questions. I want to do a small town or village map to start with. Thanks for your input in advance.
1) What would be a good size for the map to start out with?
2) Scale of the building for this type of map?
3) Average number of building in this size type of map?
4) Recommended style?
Comments
1) 300' x 250' would be a good start.
2) When you set it up, the symbols auto scale according to map size. You can also right click, with a symbol on the cursor, and change the scale.
3) you decide. Some of my towns are sparse number of buildings.
4) there are several available, just pick one, look at the pdf for it, and see if you like it. Map.
Thank You JimP.
Have you combined different styles and if so which one work well together?
Ok so looking at the blank map I realized I have no idea how to start this type of map. Do I start out with roads or terrain features first and then place the buildings? The other type of maps I have rough idea of what I want. Here I have an idea but can't seem to put it all together. Maybe I should go watch some of Ralf's videos to get an idea of how to start.
I know someone answered this before but I forgot. How do you select a single symbol from connection symbols?
I've made so many maps, I'm not sure what I put with what.
Sometimes I start with buildings and add roads. Sometimes I put roads and walls in, then add buildings.
Also go to the search page on the Atlas. See what others have combined to make a city or town.
My first stab at a town / Village map. Comments welcome. The thatch buildings are the shady part of town.
Looks nice, but that road in the top right part looks a tad to compass rose straight. Would look a bit more natural if both that and the bridge was on a bit of an angle.
Just for you. I redid the shady part of town and even changed the building to reflect a more rundown area.
Adjusted the Temple as I thought it was a little out of place.
Great little map there, Jeff :)
