House/Random Street No longer Making Roofs

I am using the Asian Town, although I do not think it matters. The Random street had been working fine, but now it has stopped. When using House or Random Street, all that happens is I get the color background that goes below the roof. It is no longer rendering the roof symbols.
I have checked the house settings and everything seems fine. I have created another map, and the command works there. The only thing I can think of is that I had been importing some symbol fills. That is the only change. However, I am not sure how to get the house command to work again. I can change the style and it does not matter.

Did you check the layers in the map where you only see the background colour to see if any are hidden?
What you describe sounds a bit like my "purple box issue"...
The color changes based on the color I have selected. There are no hidden layers. The houses I already made are fine. It is just the new houses I try to make that have an issue.
Do you have a screen shot of what's happening?
Hmmm. That's a bit strange isn't it.
If this was happening to me I would start by checking that the last three checkboxes in the Global sun settings are clear (right click the hourglass and pick Global sun).
Then I would also check which layers I had hidden, and see if making them visible again shows the textures.
My global sun matches yours. I don't have any sheet effects on anyway. There are no layers frozen or hidden and things are still broken.
I think it may have something to do with me trying to find something to use for fields in other styles. It was after that that this occurred. However, all of the needed files are still there and everything is pointing to it.
Just in some case the file would be helpful, I have attached it.
Problem solved - I hope. It was trying to draw the houses on the merge layer instead of building. Manually switching the layer to buildings gave me back the roofs for new houses. I saved the file and just hope this doesn't happen again.
I didn't even know that was possible.
Yes, the MERGE layer is one to be left well alone, but visible at all times.
I don't even know how it got into merge. I never mess with the layers - only sheets. Must have occured when I was flipping through the other styles.
Well, that has happened to me a few times - now I know how to fix it. Thanks @JulianDracos
Attempting to draw on the merge layer ought to cause a warning because it's a source of recurring aggravation.
Hear hear. And why it sometimes switches to that layer also eludes me.
