Here are the map notes. Submitted to Remy for the Atlas. 2023 will be the year of Spiros Isle - I intend to map all locations, and then do up a full adventure campaign module for the whole island.
This region of central Spiros is dominated by a swampy terrain, the Pitakos Marsh. It is home to a small clan of Lizardmen, whose dread secret is revealed below.
It is also the site of a small temple and castle ruin, former structures used by the former dwarf lords and their subjects. They were destroyed by the invading Holy Spiros monks, and much of the former dwarf lord’s family and retinue were unceremoniously dumped in the swamp.\The swamp itself has grown, since the former drainage works that kept the region dry and firm were destroyed along with the castle. As a result, the main road between the Monastery in the south, and the ever-increasingly rebellious village of Helinesa in the north has fallen into disarray. That suits the Helinesans, and so far, work on a rerouting of the road has been repeatedly sabotaged.
A double row of massive stone obelisks, carved initially with scenes from dwarven legend, lead from the north-western edge of the marsh to the gates of an underground complex. The features on the obelisks, lining what was known as the Lord’s Corridor, are largely defaced by the fanatic Spiros monks.
The secret that the lizardmen hold: Once every thousand eggs will not hatch into another lizardman, but transmogrify into a small dragon – which then, of course, grows into a bigger and bigger dragon. And, that baby blue dragon was born in the last few months!! and its lizardmen parents are besotted. They will do anything to save their dear little baby from undergoing any harm (possibly a pheremone induced effect by the dragon baby on its parents).
Ironically, records of this type of occurrence were kept in the former Dwarf Lord's library, which was in the castle, now ruined, in the north west of the island.
