[WIP] Chisinau
I just can't stop doing cities.
here is the beginning of one - main roads, parklands and water/rivers have been mapped.
Any comments about layout so far? Is it realistic, or not.

Cities come in all shapes and sizes. I suppose realism is down to where you put the city centre and all the important and functional buildings.
All streets done. I am happy, but comments about layout welcome. Is it realistic enough?
Without knowledge of the time period in which the city formed, a scale for the size of the city, and a general population / purpose for the city, it's very hard to say if it's "realistic" or not. It's certainly a plausible layout at first glance. It generally reads as an overgrown purpose-built colonial outpost (heavy grid in the city center, more organic outside of that). The odd start-stop street pattern would likewise suggest several iterations of growth and redevelopment, possibly in response to various disasters / depopulation events. Again, it's tough to say without a scale.
Well, the secret is out. It is modern day Chisinau, capital of Moldova, where I am staying at present. And the scale isn't on the maps I traced, but I am hoping to rectify that soon.
I did this as an exercise in how real cities actually look, rather than how we so often draw them in our fantasy maps.
If you're looking for street layouts (and nothing more) of real cities, take a look at https://anvaka.github.io/city-roads/?
(If you open the Customize menu, you can even export it as an .svg, and convert that to something CC can import directly.
@taustinoc Yes, I already have that program, and used it on an experimental basis.
Here is an update. Text and building shapes to go, then it's finished, unless others want to add their comments.
I made some extra symbols for this style.
The labels so far need to be moved away from their respective buildings, as being the same colour, they become illegible where they overlap. Some of this may be the old "unfixed text" problem, however, because of the illustrated resolution.
Yes, at present they are markers for me. The actual buildings haven't been finished yet, and also the icons need to be made all the same size. At a better resolution, where I have done this, it looks good. A city this size (population of city proper of 532,513 in 2014) needs to be viewed at high resolution, and I will post some close ups late on, when I have progressed further.
And the colours are different which again is more obvious at better resolution. I think the ones that already are on buildings look OK to me, anyway. Most of the markers have no building associated with them as yet, and are too big, anyway. I hope the more finished update will show all this.
My next step will be finishing all the buildings; then labelling them, and the parks and other important features; finally the streets.
As this is going to be in the Atlas (I hope) the names will not be the Moldovan ones, but something else (and not Ukrainian either). And Chisinau will probably be Tatiamisto - a shortened form of Tatiana's town. Not a political statement, just a romantic one. And as this looks sort of Italian, I might use Italianate names. The usual puns will of course exist.
And thanks to @Wyvern for your usual helpful commentary. Keep it up - I learn heaps from you.
An update - more labelling to do. But no more buildings added. Perhaps a remnant city wall, just for fun
Looks a lot more realistic with all the important buildings marked :)
Yes. I am going to name many of them, and some of the major streets and parks. I am going to use Latin names and gods - eg Sancta Minerva, Sanctus Iovius etc. Should be fun.
The finished city of Tatiamisto, aka Chisinau (capital of Moldova, where I was for a month recently). I will find a spot in the Atlas for it. Large version in Gallery.
The names are Italian, most with meaning. The temples are to the Roman Gods.
Comments welcome, please
And somewhere to place it - in Kumarikandam, a little used continent. And here is the area it will be placed in. (Erdan worlds style - becoming a favourite of mine)
Completed Alicia map - both city and map will be submitted for the Atlas
A bit late, I know, as I've been MiA this past week, but should at least some of the embassies not be named in the city?
Plus maybe that cluster of three Embassies on the south side should be naming the general area they're in?
Thanks Quenten. Your maps is in the atlas now.
I have left the deliberately blank as the area in the Atlas is not really mapped out as far as nations are concerned - it will be up to those who use it to do
