Problems with walls and terrain

Hi,
I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I frequently get when trying to add terrain (on overland maps) and walls (on dungeon maps).
Frequently when I use the 'T' button to draw a line along a coast or dungeon wall to add terrain or a wall to a tunnel/room, the program seems to freeze and I get a screen that looks like this.
This flashes on and off until I get fed up of waiting for something to happen and have to reboot the program.
What am I doing wrong, and does anyone have a fix?
Thanks in advance
Dak

When you run List from the Info menu on the entity you are trying to trace, how many nodes does it have?
In addition to that, check how many nodes you have in all the larger entities in your drawing.
Trace works well, until you start with tens of thousands of nodes in the entity you are trying to trace, at which point things start to get really slow.
Thanks Sue,
When I press list for part of the map, it says there are over 16,000 nodes.
Is there no way round this, except to put the walls/terrain in by hand?

Try using the SIMPLIFY command with a relatively small factor. You would be surprised how many nodes can be reduced without there being much of a difference in the entity you are reducing.
Can't you split the entity you're tracing to the part you want to trace, do the tracing, and then recombine the original entity?
Yes, you could do that, but putting the split entity back together might be a bit complicated.
Instead I would copy the entity to a temporar layer, hide the original one, and then cut it down to the part you want to trace. Trace this pared-down copy, then delete the copy and show the original again. That way you don't have to bother about re-combining the original.
Thanks for the help everybody
