Using Color Palettes

How do you set up a color palette?
If you click the color chip, that opens the color palette, which has options to save and load Custom PAL - but how do you actually go about saving the colors you want? Can they be pulled from the map? Or loaded from an image made in Photoshop or Illustrator?

You edit them in the palette one at a time, and then attach the palette to the map in the Drawing Properties dialog
If you want the palette to be available in other drawings the old way was to save the custom palette. These days you can save your modified palette and open it in other maps. The commands for doing this are explained in this blog, written by Remy Monsen:

Thanks. I'd actually looked at that document, but somehow didn't get the process of a) select a color from the swatches, b) click Define Color, and c) choose a new color to fit into that spot out of the 256 available colors. Read the part about saving the custom .pal in another directory so as not to mess up other maps, and to simply rename custom palettes to fcw32.pal and place back in the CC3Plus directory when you want to swap in a specific custom palette.
Be careful that you don't completely overwrite the fcw32.pal file. I prefer to attach a new palette to the file, or if I'm making a new style - to the template. Palettes attached to a template will be present in any new file created from that template.
Ok - made a backup copy of fcw32.pal and saved in another directory.
Out of curiosity, do you know what file gets loaded when you click 'Use Default PAL'?
No file. The default colors are hard-coded into the software.
