"Dimensional" Trees
One of the things I love about CC is what I call "Creativity through constraint". Not being an artist, nor particularly handy with drawing/photo applications, encourages me to try new techniques with CC and see how far I can push the app. While working on my newest floor plan using the Mike Schley symbols I noticed that some of the large trees show a cross section of the trunk (like the tree was cut at 15 feet (5 meters) high).
This got me to thinking: "Can I build custom trees using sheets and symbols?". I used 'bushes' and 'natural debris' to create the tree. The 3 examples below show my progress... I have the trees layered across 4 sheets:
Symbols Tree, Low
Symbols Tree, Medium
Symbols Tree, High
Symbols Tree, Crown
The directional shadow cast is progressively longer the 'higher' the tree grows (5 feet (1.5 meters) for low, 7 feet (2 meters) for medium, 10 feet (3.5 meters) for high, and 15 feet (5 meters) for crown).
As always, comments and criticisms welcome!

Yes, it's possible to do this with quite a number of the top-down tree symbols, adjusting the sizes sometimes, and to slot in other symbols - such as houses (or use wooden docks as aerial walkways, for instance) - so they end up partly hidden because they're "partway" up the tree too. Worth seeing of the style you're using has any smaller bush and shrub symbols as well, as they can add extra interest. And if you want something unusual, try making any varicolor tree or shrub symbols much smaller than usual, and in bright colours, to look like flowers - perhaps like orchids, say - half-hidden among the greenery.
Love this!
