Still chugging along on maps for my new campaign. This one is making me pull my hair out! 😁 The process is tedious for city locations. As you can see, I am working on my KEY, trying to decide on a good size. Also, I'm not sure if the brown stone bg or the grey stone bg should go for the city areas. Please advise! Oh, and, of course as you can see, this is 'watabou' style.

Looks like the start of a good map. I would put some farmland around that huge city, unless there is a story reason why not.
Grey or brown? You could put grey down and use an RGB Matrix Process to turn it whatever colour you like :)
@Calibre I would make some of the city inside the walls grey, representing paved in some way, the rest brown, where it is not paved, but rather dirt. Alternatively, colour the ground of each section according to districts.
Are you going to colour buildings by function, or just use a colour key.
Somehow, I sort of recognize the city 😏
Hey all!
@Quenten gonna use a color key
@Loopysue farmland inbound
thanks guys
PS @Loopysue I meant: which one looks better :) brown or grey, please?
PS @Quenten Ahh. No, not same map. I had to do another myself because I couldn't duplicate the one you sent. Shame as I liked yours better 😑
Progress:
That looks a bit more believable :)
The field texture... if you scale it 1.5 times larger in the height direction it should look a bit better, since equal scaling means its set up for an isometric overland map rather than a top view map.
Brown, I think. Or you could keep both but move the brown to a sheet of it's own with an Edge Fade, Inner effect on it to blend it slightly at the edge with the grey. The grey would have to go right under the brown, of course. All these things are up to you to decide.
Ohh, I love it!
I would try to colour the different city parts with different and very transparent colours. Or, alternatively, add some coloured borders? Not sure it will result in something better, but I would try. 😉
Also, some city parks?
Thanks, everyone.
I agree with going brown. Just couldn't make up my mind.
@Loopysue Interesting. Will do!
