Scale Bar Issues

I am using FT3 to export SRTM contour data to CC3. I want to take the contour data and overlay it on an existing map in CC3. The existing map already has a scale, and I chose the scale bar option in FT3 during the export process for the contour map. HOWEVER the scale bar for the contour map from FT3 is clearly no where near correct for the contour map. What is the procedure to ensure the scale bar adjusts properly to the associated contour map from FT3?

My second question is simply, does anyone have any better suggestions on how to marry two maps together like this? ? I have seen some discussion on this, but I found no other good suggestions on how to accomplish this. The georeference/fitting process is difficult between the 2 maps without roads and rivers on the contour map to cross reference placement. Until I get the scaling issue figured out it is almost impossible. I don't require perfect fidelity between the maps, but I would like to be as close as I reasonably can. Any thoughts or suggestions here is much appreciated.

Just forget the FT3 scale bar. It is somewhat bugged, and never correct. And even if it were correct, due to the fact that maps exported from a globe (FT3) to a flat plane (CC3+) will always have projection issues anyway, so it would never be properly correct to the level that you can correctly use it to scale with a CC3+ map.

Instead, find a set of 2 recognizable points that appear both on your CC3+ map, and your FT3 import. Use Info -> Distance to figure the distance between those points for both maps, and then just scale the FT3 import by the factor between those two.

As long as you can match the two maps up so that the contours fit the existing CC3 map, I would simply ignore the scale bar from FT3, since your existing CC3 map already has a scale.

  • Sorry if I wasn't clear, but I need the scale bar to properly get the maps to the same scale...or at least reasonably close. Otherwise it is a frustrating and overly cumbersome iterative process getting to roughly the same scale...THEN I need to try and line them up which is another frustrating and overly cumbersome iterative process...at least the way I am trying to do it... Any further thoughts or suggestions?
