Atlas Competition - The Divide

Finally had the time to start on my own map. It will be a simple level for the mega-dungeon.
The map is divided into two halves by a chasm, with a fire giant being trapped on one side and a frost giant on the other side (maybe they will morph into wizards or elements or something later, let's see as the map progress).
So far, I've only just started on the chasm dividing the map in two.

Obviously lots to do with this one yet, but I've now added a broken room across the chasm, and some hot and cold rooms on either side. I am using the color key effect to let the chasm break the hexagonal room. Floor colors in the two rooms are provided by a simple RGB Matrix effect, just increasing the amount of blue and red respectively. Might not be the final fill, but I needed a placeholder to guide me.
Starting to look really interesting, Remy :)
I think this is close to the final appearance for this map. Maybe some tweaks, but other than that, the map is done.
Image below shows map with a grid.
I am using a wall mask which is just the background multipolied with the floor to hide the grid and effects outside the walls. I am also using the color key effect both to break open the central room, as well as hiding the grid over the canyon.
This is intentionally a small place, but for a bigger map, pretend those are 10 foot squares instead of 5.
Something like this?
Yes. I hadn't thought about that, but now it's done it looks much better.
Do you think a glow that made the bottom of those cliffs darker than the top would also work well?
Like this then:
Oh yes! I love it :)
That looks very good. Maybe make the floor of the Gorge a little darker, It kind of looks like there is a bulge down there right now.
This is awesome - I just downloaded the CC3 file from the entry thread and was looking at how you did the chasm and I really like the technique. I've tried something similar in the past but I believe I was overthinking it and ended up with about half a dozen sheets to create something not even as good as what you did in basically three (four if we count the etra sheet darkening the bottom some more).
I did have a question about the symbols you used though - I have all the annuals and CC3 add-ons, Bogie's Mapping Objects, and part of the Vintyri Collection installed to the default locations but when I open your file the pillars and braziers are red X's - do you recall what set those came from? I really like those braziers. ?
Mark, it looks like they're from the Dundjinni Archives: the Crystal-Table symbols for the pillars (@Symbols\Dundjinni Archives\BL12_Dressing\Winter Objects\) and the BurningPot symbols for the braziers (@Symbols\Dundjinni Archives\BL12_Dressing\Flaming Pots\).
