This 49 or 50 page presentation shows some interesting maps about the world. Much of it is US centric, but interesting comparisons and relationships are shown. Especially number 46.
And the extent of the Mongolian Empire is stunning. Alexander the Great was a nobody in comparison.

I agree with that assessment about the Mongolian empire, second only to the British Empire in size and population. and both lasted for as short a period. The Roman and Chinese and Arab empires remain the most impressive for size, population and longevity. IMHO
And thanks for the link, mike. When they show how 'tiny' New Zealand is cf to USA, they forget to comment on its size cf to California, say. And USA-centric is no exaggeration!
I really loved the map showing all 7000 of the rivers feeding the Mississippi. Kind of cool how it collects water from a really huge part of the US.
