River Watch
A cave fort sitting at the headwaters of the Maidar River. A small protected woodland, and a small lake.
Evil to the Southeast. Druids, behind high mountains, to the southwest. Goblin captives have said there are dug tunnels that go near the druids. The dwarves in River Watch don't trust such claims.
The small villages provide food to the River Watch inhabitants.
River Watch cave ( I think I got all of the spelling errors fixed in this text. ) I tried to get the outer glow to work on both the large and the small text. It looks better exported than it does on my 40" computer screen.
Additional barriers can be placed behind each portcullis to block arrows and spears.
1) Entrance
2) Main Cave has 3 pit traps. Narrow passages. 6 on watch. Two portcillis block exit from main cave.
3) cistern. Clear cool water.
4) small barracks sleeps 12 in double and quad bunks. Barrels of stone hammers. Three square boxes of spears and other weapons. Small bench. Water barrel.
5) jakes, 5 of them. Two water bowls for hand washing. Two fireplaces.
6) huge barracks. 19 double beds. Two fireplaces. 10 cabinets. 2 water barrels. Portcullis blocks entrance into room.
7) jakes: 8 of them. Room kept warm via small fire.
8) barracks. 5 double beds. 6 chairs. A small fireplace. Table with 6 chairs. Portcullis blocks entrance into room.
9) Storage. Various cabinets and crates contain spare clothes, spare armor, and spare weapons.
10) kitchen. A fireplace, two cast iron stoves. 8 cutting and food preperation tables. 7 cabinets. 2 barrels.
10A) firewood storage.
11) not used. Portcullis blocks both ends of room.
12) not entered. Various splashing sounds have been heard coming from this cave, but not for over 100 years. Running water can be heard from time to time, sounds like it is falling from the ceiling.
River Watch cave, underground stream. Level above the caves.
This stream goes from out of the mountains, across this mesa, and out the south side as a water fall. It is the headwaters of the Maidar River. It is out in the open in the Hidden Valley and Hidden Lake.
A small bit of it feeds the pond in ground level cave 12. The '1' marks the defensive cave entrance on the ground level.
Thanks, Jim. I'll submit all the Druid areas today, and get cracking on Maidarner (I think that is what you have put on the map - better than my original suggestion).
A few suggestions:
the hidden lake lacks a bit of interest - perhaps a ruined or unruined statue or shrine, ,or even a memorial garden
the river underground map could perhaps show the exit to the outside world with the waterfall? It would make up for a lot of empty space. Perhaps a few 'ribbon' caves as well - long thin caves with nor much wriggle room - say 2-3' (I have been in the famous Ribbon Cave at the Jenolan Caves complex in the Blue Mountains of NSW). Lots of tiny limestone formations - and perhaps one with hidden treasure/ maps/ artefact in one, long hidden by ancient beings?
Your maps are now in the atlas. Thanks for the contribution Jim.
But for the future, can I ask you to be a bit more inventive with the map names. I am pretty sure the people who lives there do have names for their areas, and especially just incrementing a number really looks weird in an atlas when going between areas of different scales. People love to put names on places, I would very much like to see the regional maps named for a more interesting atlas. Be creative, that's what the people who live there is, they just pick a nice name, doesn't have to be based on the name of other things in the area. I am sure people prefer to live in the place named Grayline Hills rather than River Watch Environs 02. The map name will show up as the name of the entire area it depicts in the atlas, which is why this name is important, and not just locations inside that area that appears on the map.
Comments
I'll start posting text and the updated maps this morning. Please let me know of any spelling errors, and map errors.
Thanks.
In my brain, I pronounce it similar to Maid Armor.
He has lots of chemo and radiation therapy to go. Hopefully done by March.
River Watch Environs. Part 1.
I'll post these as i get the text done. So there will be pauses inbetween posts.

River Watch environs Part 2.
Yellow tree, green tree, or no tree for the fortress ?
The extra mesas are to confuse the bad guys.

Hidden Lake.
Waterfall and cave to the North.
A small lake, with a few fish in it.
The stream goes out of this hidden area and becomes a larger stream. Then a tributary provides enough water to make it into a river.
Visitors soon learn there are watchful eyes. They are not friendly eyes.
900 pixel jpg. I renamed the jpg and fcw file to River_Watch_hiddenlake instead of River_Watch_falls.

I think that is it. Any additions/changes should be announced today as I will submit these maps and the accompanying text on Wednesday.
Thanks.
Minor typo in River Watch Cave text, item 2: "portcillis" should be portcullis.
Thanks. I'll fix that. Everquest 2 is in a 6 hour expansion patch. So I have 4 hours to go before I can game again.
I fixed the misspelled word.
@Quenten Your turn.

Okay. I'll look at it later. On my cell.

1) an abandoned house ruin.
1A) the last apple tree left after the house was abandoned.
2) the home of an elf family who liked to talk to the dwarves. It is unknown what happened to therm.

I'll opt for the extra water courses. It would take me too long to work on the waterfall.
Changed the text slightly on the map.
And here is the updated zip with the one changed text file.

Lots of work there, Jim. Thank you :)
You're welcome.
Onward !
