Vista Crashes

I have a new laptop computer, and I'm about to go on vacation, so I thought it is time to get a clean install of CC3 going. The machine has Vista Home Basic, and after installing just CC3 and the Update to bring it up to 3.24, I'm getting random crashes: If I save the opening logo screen to my Documents folder, and just now when I changed my Symbol Catalog Display Characteristics (to 2 columns and 50-pixel symbols).

I didn't pay much attention when people were having Vista install problems, and now I can't find the threads. Can someone point me to a solution, or do I need to bother Linda & Tech Support?
