Castle Mistamere

This is my altered version of the map of Castle Mistamere from the starter adventure in the Basic D&D red box set from eht mid 80's.

I've gone through some tutorials and made a few practice maps but this is my first map using Dungeon Designer that I'm happy enough with to post here.

I converted the adventure for my 5th ed. group and thought that the map could do with a a bit of modernisation. So, here it is with a few changes from the original to suit my conversion and a slight change in the story.

It's too big to post as an attachment, so here's a small(ish) preview and a link to the full size version :)

  • This is amazingly supercalifragilisticexpialidosis!
  • Haha! Thank you :)
  • Looks good. The only recommendation I would make is to increase the irregularity of the grassy texture. Each square has the same repeating pattern and it distracts from what is otherwise a pretty well done map.
  • How do I increase the irregularity of the grass texture? I thought that wasn't possible with the background.

You can layer other terrain over it, similar to what you did with the road. If you right-click the Default Terrain button, the Select Drawing Tool displays with a list of other terrain options. Pick one you like and then you can draw a poly or two (or more) on the grass to give it a more organic/geological feel. Naturally (heh) you can do this a couple of times with more than one terrain tool, to get the look you want.

Oh, and I don't think I commented yet so I'll say "Bravo!" It looks really nice. I especially like how the mountainside merges with the walls and yet continues straight along the back. Also the collapsed sections of wall and, especially, the collapse on the stairs. Nicely done. Your players should have a blast, if they haven't already. Thanks for sharing!

    Cheers,

  • Ahhh! I'll try that and thanks :)
