Battlemaps for an evil tower

Hello all. Have been plugging away at CC3 for last few months and finally have created something worth showing off (hopefully). Plan to use this in a first level D&D adventure I will be DMing in a couple of weeks. Story will involve a kidnapped wife to be and some nasty lycanthropes. The idea of the tower is that at first everything seems normal but the higher up the PC's go, the darker and nastier the tower becomes, until the final and disturbing top floor.

I have really enjoyed getting to grips with this program.

Hopefully these pics come out ok with low resolution. At low resolution the grid lines come out pretty bright, but at the higher resolution that I will be printing, they get a bit thinner and dimmer.

Comments and advice more than welcome!

These look fantastic. Congrats on a beautiful — and functional! — map. I dig all the "set dressing" and details you did. It's stuff like that, that really brings a map to life. And it makes it a lot easier for players to be creative during combat, or even conversation.

I really like the thicker outer walls and the thinner inner walls. I also like how the grid is on top of the ground but not the walls. My only suggestion would be to fade the grid 50% (or possibly more), and maybe give it a slight glow to further fade out the edges of the grid lines. The grid lines seem kind of wide/thick. You definitely want to see the grid on a battle map but, at fully opacity, it's distracting and takes away from all the amazing detail you put into the map. You might also consider possibly changing the grid color to more of a gray than a white, though the transparency should help mostly with that.

Regardless, your players are in for quite a treat. Congrats on a terrific map!

    Cheers,

  • Hehehh thanks :) was lots of fun making it and I certainly learnt a few tricks during the process. As for the grid, it sure does look overdone on these pics. When it comes to printing, I have made JPG's of each battlemap with much higher resolution and the higher resolution makes the grid a lot thinner for some reason, but you're right it is a bit over the top in these images, maybe I should have toned the grid down a bit before posting these...

This is great!! lots of details and it really brings the background and story to life. I like they way you did the round wall around the circulare stairway.
I noticed only one little thing, on your first floor in the middle north end of the hallways is a small 10 * 5 room with no entrance. Is a door on the wrong sheet or is this a secert room?

    Great map.
Muy favorote is the top floor, Its just screams "evil".
  • Thanks for the positive feedback.

KenG > Yup, that little room will be secret room for spying on guests. There will be a secret room on each floor, and if I do a good job as DM, each one will need a sneaky trick to open.... And the Tomb of Ultimate Mapping was invaluable for curving the wall around the stairwell. Actually I found the Tomb just plain invaluable!
