Cloud test

Clercon inspired me. He was playing with clouds on his map so I figured I would give it a try on mine. I think with a little more monkeying around I could get them better but thought I would post my initial results.

  • These work very well with this particular map style! Nice!

The cloud shadows are very subtle, at first I wasn't sure whether they were shadows at all. Maybe you could make them a bit more visible, and give them some more blur. The cloud-shadow distance is pretty good, I think it gives the clouds the necessary impression of height.

  • Agree with Nils, and might suggest adding a touch more transparency
  • I was thinking the same thing. Just whipped those up though. The shadows are a bit tricky. Either they are subtle like this or at times they tend to stick out like sore thumbs. I'll work with them though. I plan to put them in and reprint the whole map again now LOL.

  • I though heavy mist might be fun too.

I added this image over on my Blacksharde League thread too. But it is also a cloud based item for this thread.

  • They look great (i'm partial to the first image)...and...although we bugged you to give us close up versions of this map on the other post, it be nice to see to get a holistic view of them on the big map :)
  • Well the full sized image in one piece is like 32MB. I just do not know how I'd share that. I don;t like drop box types of programs because I am paranoid - sorry. if someone has a better idea, I am all ears.

I think your clouds look great especially the ones over the mountains. They give the mountains a feeling of height that they didn't have before. If I were you this is where I'd keep them and work on them. Great job!
  • I eventually did work out #1. I put a few roughly center of the map and eastward to that mountain range as well and then left the plume over the volcano. The printed version of this map on photo satin paper along with the frame and double mat I chose looks really nice. Thanks for all of the input you guys.

    Hey JSM,

If it isn't too late, maybe snap and post a photo of the finished gift? It sounds really nice. You know, not necessarily to see the map details (you already showed us those) but to show us the physical map and how you had it mounted. If it isn't already wrapped and all that. :-D
