How to move a bitmap image

edited April 3 in Community Support

I have a large map with a large bitmap image embedded. I'd like to shirt the image within the map a little bit. Is there a way of doing this other than the MOV(Move/Quick Move/Non-visual Move)? I was thinking along the lines of being able to edit the origin point but cannot find anything. Thanks

Picking an origin is part of the move command and happens when the command line asks you for "move from point". That's an origin you are picking for this move operation.

Make sure the bitmap isn't on a frozen layer (unfreeze it's layer if frozen). Then the regular "Move, Scale, Rotate" tool (the main command that requires you to hit D for Do It) will work on it just like any other object in your drawing. To select an image you need to click it's edge. When the command asks for the "move from point", pick the spot you want as your origin in the image with your mouse. This picks up the image with that point anchored to your cursor. Then you can place it where you want that point in the image to be.

If you want to put that point at a specific coordinate once you've picked it up you can either turn on the snap grid before you place it (yes, in the middle of the move command), and then pick your snap grid point to paste it down again, or you can type in the coordinate destination on your keyboard.

    ...

Incidentally - the image isn't embedded in the drawing; it's a reference like everything else. That's why you have to be careful not to move the location of the drawing file or the image file separately, or to rename the image file, or you will break that reference and the image will only appear as the standard red X - just like when you break a symbol reference.

  • Thanks Sue, I think I was missing the typing in coordinate bit.
