Locking to prevent accidental edits

I know I can hide sheets while working on other sheets but is it possible to keep these sheets still visible yet locked so the items on those sheets are still visible but not able to be selected

Freezing the layer should do the trick, and if necessary adding new layers for the purpose of separating everything the way you want it.
