A close up of the hole in Sub-level 04 and the entire level. 900 pixels of 2000 pixel wide maps.

    Very impressive! :)

These maps definitely look much more eye-catching when they are put together like this. I get a much better sense of the scale of things.

I still want to tweak the hole down to Deadly Cave, but I'll start submitting if it looks okay.

I think those two cracks symbols on the extreme left may be on the wrong sheet, since they have a very large shadow that makes them look like they are floating, but the rest of it looks fine :)

Hmmm... I must be tired as I don't see a shadow on them. I zoomed in, and it looks more like the floor is adding the appearance of shadows. I have 'Shadow, Wall Directional' on the Symbols sheet.

Here is the next version. I don't think I can get much more out of this.

Now I see the shadow... I'll work on it.

Jim, the cracks seem to be cutting some of the boulders and skeletons as well. Might need some reworking of the stacking order for those symbols on the different sheets. At present, it's making the cracks seem to lie on a glass ceiling above the lower cavern floor.

I'll probably get rid of that one cracked floor symbol at the hole.

Maybe if you move the sheet with the cracks on it below the stones (visually) you won't need to delete it?

I did this, hopefully it looks better. Deleted one small one and moved another one.

I'll also try moving the sheets around.

And here is the cracks sheet moved to below everything but the bottom floor. Branch map. So I have both the one above and this one available.

    That's better again :)

But now I see the sheet with the cracks on the right hand side is doing what Wyvern noticed. If those could be below the rocks as well - as if the floor is cracked but the rocks have fallen onto it from above, everything would be perfect.

That's odd. The cracks have actually moved below the boulders.

    Anyway - it worked :)

A shame that you can't have the shadow bit showing.

I had 3 hid, not two. I have made visible all but one.

Yes that's better. Didn't you have an edge fade inner sheet effect on that shadow?

    Still there.

Distance 11.4212 units, Opacity 0%, Map Units.

Changed it to 50% opacity. Didn't seem to make a change. I'll post the changed map. Back in a couple of minutes.

That doesn't really sound like an Edge Fade Inner sheet effect. Does it look like this:

(not the numbers or what's ticked. I mean the general appearance of the effect editing box)

Yes, the 40 width just happened to be the width that was set on the one I picked for a beauty shot. I thought you might have copied the numbers over, which would have explained why it didn't seem to be working right.

You've got the effect working beautifully on the sheet with the sand texture on it. How about applying the same effect to the sheet with the shadow patch on it?
    • CommentAuthorJimP
    • CommentTimeNov 5th 2019 edited

Hmmm. One patch of sand is on one sheet and on another sheet.

One on the right is partially under the shadow on the Floors sheet, and the other is mostly under the shadow on the Floors2 sheet.

    Floors sheet just has glow.

Floors2 sheet has Fade Edge Inner.

The floor cracks are on a sheet between those two sheets.

Here is the part with Edge Fade, Inner on both Floors and Floors2. The floor crack sheet doesn't have any effects.

I'll be working on my car's coolant system this afternoon. So when my relative gets here I'll stop working on this.

I think there might be a few too many Edge Fade Inner sheet effects around the place right now. The only one that needed it was the transparent dark patch of shadow in the middle, which had a rather sharp edge. I would take them off the floor sheets because the floor no longer reaches the walls.

    I have 4 floor sheets.

    Well, I have:

    Floors: Edge Fade Inner
    Symbols flat: floor cracks
    Floors2: Edge Fade Inner
    Floors3: Edge Fade Inner

I'll work on it some more.

I don't think you need the EFI effects on the sheets that have actual floors on them, because the actual floors are vanishing before they meet the walls.

    • CommentTimeNov 5th 2019

Yes, thats where it is located.
    • CommentAuthorLoopysue
    • CommentTimeNov 5th 2019

Is it with something else on the same sheet?

If it is, then maybe move it to a new sheet of its own and add an EFI sheet effect to it - to soften the edges of the shadow?

Then make sure all the actual floors reach the walls by removing all the other EFI effects, and that should be it - perfect :)

Well, on floor2 there are two things. A sand floor piece and the 40 bmp. I'll ,ove the sand piece to another sheet.

Found out what was wrong with my car's coolant system. We bought a hose and clamps as a hose is leaking after several minutes of operating the engine. Fix that tomorrow. My relative thinks it will take an hour. We'll see.

I know all about how to mend a car. Unless you happen to have a complete garage with a lifting ramp and the whole works, you can guarantee that you will end up needing a particular tool you don't already have, and spend a day trying to track one down :P

    But good luck :)
