Symbols in area command

I'm trying to use the symbol in area command with a personal symbol catalog. I can get it to do this but it only uses a single symbol in the group. When I use a group of symbols from a different group I can get a random sampling of symbols. I'm not sure what is going on. The settings are exactly the same.
See the pictures to help explain what I'm getting. The left shows the single symbol, the right shows the different symbols in the mix.

Are the symbols in the symbol catalog actually configured to be a group? Name alone isn't enough.

Monsen, You are right. I needed to select the options when creating the symbol set and mark it as part of a collection.

It also seems to work for symbols along. A little messy but but very useful.

Yea, symbols along work best when all the symbols included are the same width, or if you plan to have very large gaps anyway.

I'm just excited to be able to use more than a single symbol with symbols along. It opens up a lot of interesting ideas. Thanks again.
