Just getting back into mapping, gave myself a refresher through the updated tome. Thought I would share my recent map. It's fairly large so the resolution is quite low, maybe I'll link to a higher res later.

    EDIT:
Here's a gridded version at 50 pixels per 5ft square
Here's an ugridded version at 50 pixels per 5ft square

I do have them marked as I do plan on starting up a patreon (it's not set up yet I want to finish some more maps and get the momentum going). We'll see how it does, it's just for fun.

    Some background on the map:
It's designed to just drop in as a filler. There is an old abandoned temple carved into the mountain side.

Has it been taken over by goblins? maybe cultists? perhaps there is a necromancer raising the dead there?

There is a road side shrine where an NPC can plead his case to the PCs to cleanse the temple and drive out those who defile it, or maybe another adventurer who needs help plundering it's treasures.

How to get in? is the door blocked? the PCs can enter through the tunnel where the fiver comes out. Do they have to much equipment and want to see them struggle a bit? it's deep water, they have to choose what they leave behind to swim in. or maybe they can enter just fine but the entrance caves in and now they must find an alternative exit through the cave?

Did the PCs just blow through the map and you got nothing else? There can be a hidden door under the central altar, either they found or revealed by the NPC, leading down to a cave system or catacombs (that I am currently working on) where the real big bad is.

Very nice. I play mostly on Fantasy Grounds, so I'm always on the lookout for high-quality battle maps :)

Thank you guys for your kind words, I've added in a link to a higher res version and some background/scenario ideas in the original post.

Really nice work on this! I love your use of the lighting effects within the cave!

Thanks, I decided to have some glowing fungus so the cave wasn't just dark. I originally had it glowing purple but my editor (wife) suggested blue and I think that it turned out well. Having a non-mapping person to look over the map was a huge help. When I placed the water in the low parts of the cave, I knew the water was there but the wife was having a had time telling there was water there, so I was able to change things up to increase the readability.

Lighting can be tricky in large maps in a large resolution because CC3+ renders the image in blocks and if the light source is not in the same block it doesn't get rendered leaving odd straight shadows. I had to add some more lighting and move some around to avoid those cut offs. I also have the black wall mask that fades away to hide a lot of the lighting anomalies. I've considered doing the lighting and shadows in Photoshop post rendering, but CC3+ dynamically handles all the lighting and shadows so well and easily as opposed to doing them manually.

The main challenges I had with this map (besides relearning everything) was the waterfall, and the classic challenge of trying to display height.

Very nice map! Any chance of getting a version without a grid?

Sorry about the delay, I work long shifts and short weeks.

I have added a gridded an ungridded version as well as doing a bit of touch up on the lighting and making use of my recently gained annuals by improving the waterfalls with the one from Japanese Temples.
