Hi there,

Ever since I started using CC3 I wanted to post my maps into the forums, but I thought I could wait till I had a bunch of them. So, now I have them, and here they are. I could really use any insight you have about them, I've created them following the same tutorials we all have watched and read but experience is the best master.

I have posted them more or less in a chronological order, the first three ones have obvious defects on saturation and shadows I have since learnt to deal with, but I wanted to reflect what I think is an improvement in my use of the software. Also, there is some editing in Photoshop on them once finished that will be clear to more experienced mappers, and they all are part of my mastering effort for D&D gaming sessions in the Dragonlance setting (big fan). How large are these images, daperdepa?

They should be around 1 MB each. I can try smaller sizes if it makes it easier to look.

No that's fine.

I just didn't want to go over my BB limit, but to do that they would have had to have been at least 50 MB each. I had assumed they must be really large for you not to have simply uploaded them right here

Thanks! A DM of sorts. I create modules and submit them to a Dragonlance fan site, but only the one by now. Have several in progress, thouh, but the maps are the first thing I do, so I thought I could share them.

Nicely presented

I like the background to the map. Is that the PS bit?

And are those your own fills, or some of the PF ones a bit modified? (that's ok, by the way. I'm just curious

I created the tunnels and chambers in DD3+, added the fountains, trees and other pieces of furniture from annuals and the CSUAC add-on, then move to PS for editing. The rocky texture is actually a free old paper from DeviantArt textured and saturated. The forestal background is taken from Google Maps, a region in the Czech Republic I think, which I played with for a while trying to have it look like a drawing. The compass is a watermark I created with material from the CSUAC and a couple of shapes in PS that I put in every map.

Thanks for explaining your process. I often use GIMP to make backgrounds I import into CC3 as map backgrounds. Never found anything faster than CC3 for city building. I don't have to shade all those little rooftops by hand! LOL!

The symmetry of that main design's very appealing. Room 7f presumably needs magic to access it though (or is it open to the surface?). And I like the maze of tunnels leading in, as if created by some other civilisation entirely - possibly more than one - expanding inwards from the natural exterior-wall caves, perhaps.

Not sure about the external textured surface though. It makes the whole map look a bit too much like a cut section through a tree-trunk to me. For RPG use, I'd have wanted a clearer depiction of the outside terrain as well, given that's where any explorers will be both approaching from and returning (or indeed escaping/fleeing) to.

Thanks for the appreciation, Wyvern. I thought that much as well about the section, but the cave system is intended to be carved deep inside a hill towering over the forest so the section aspect seemed right. Instead of making a clearer exterior, I created a landscape view in Photoshop of the hill under two moons (if you are not familiar with the Dragonlance setting, most of the time it has three moons, one of them only visible to those who practice regulated black magic) to show it to the players as they approached it. Oh, and section 7 a to f is supposed to be a rite of passage for an avian tribe, so section 7f is only accessible once you perform a ritual with soil from 7e and water from 7d plus a seed the petitioners carry.

It's been a long time since I posted any map, sorry about that. Technical issues with my laptop almost costed me my whole collection of maps but for those already online, but I could finally find a working back-up of my files and I am currently in the process of finishing and publishing most of them. For starters tonight, the coastal town of Khosiir, a barbarian settlement in the Dairly Plains of the continent of Ansalon, in the Dragonlance campaign setting, a bastion of rough civilization in the border of the goblin lands.
