Exporting failing, appears file moved or renamed

I've been making dungeon maps for use as battle maps on my VTT for a while now.

As far as I can tell, my process for saving has been the same.
But today I'm getting an error that I've never encountered before.

I have my finished map, grid off and special effects enabled.
I choose Save As, and pick a PNG file.
I change the file type to PNG and click on options.
I set the pixel count to 10x the dimensions of my map (so 4000x3000 for a 400x300 map).
Image is restricted to the map border.
Maximum compression is checked along with 24-bit.

I click out of that and then Save.
It does the Rendering.

Usually I open my file in GIMP and export it as a lower quality JPG, trying for a balance between reduced file size and fairly high quality.

Today, it finished Rendering without any errors.
But the file is not in my PNG save folder.
File Explorer shows the file, but if I click it, I get a mostly black screen.
That says, 'It appears the file was moved or renamed'.

File Explorer can open the file location, but the newly rendered map is not there.
Just the previously made maps.

As far as I can tell, I'm not doing anything differently.
My Fix Me Stick did not find any infections.

I'm normally exporting to a folder on dropbox, but the same occurs straight to desktop, a different drive on the system or to USB drive plugged in.
I can create other types of files or folders, but CC3+ doesn't seem to want to save maps, aside from the .FCW format.
I tried a straight JPG instead of the PNG and it's the same deal.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Ualaa :)

Did you try closing CC3 down and then reopening it?

    That sometimes works.
  • Unfortunately that didn't do anything, nor did a reboot of my system.

Google search found someone with the inability to export and a similar message.
They had done something with a program called Image Plus.
Add/Remove programs doesn't show that on my system.

As far as I can tell, that was the only person who posted a similar issue, with the same message.

I'm no tech, so you might need to report this issue to tech support for assistance. Its approximately 2 am for them right now, though, so you may have to wait a bit for a response.
  • With a little experimentation... exporting the map at 5x the pixel count, rather than 10x, and it saves a copy of the file.
So it might be a memory issue, although I've successfully rendered maps with a larger pixel count than this one.

Maybe this has more effects, so more for it to do.

    Thanks for your assistance, Loopysue.

Hey, I didn't really do anything, but thanks anyway :)

I can export twice that size with only 1.5GB available RAM (My machine 'has issues'). So I don't think that can be the problem.

4000 x 3000 isn't really all that big for a map, so if you are still having problems with exporting at that size and no one else comes along with a solution, it might still be worth drawing it to the attention of Tech Support?
