erase, copy, move/scale/rotate suddenly don't work...

suddenly these buttons don't work. I click and get a dialog box "select a layer". I reinstalled the update and that didn't fix it. yes, it was working before the update and after the update until today. I've done the reboot the computer thing as well.

suggestions other than a complete uninstall/reinstall?

Your select method is off. You can fix it by going to Tools -> Options -> Select Method -> Dialog or Popup.

Your select method is off, probably due to a macro that crashed or was aborted midway.

Either type SELBYD on the command line, or go to tools -> options -> Select Method -> Dialog or Popup

And this is why having a puppy flop it's head on your keyboard repeatedly is bad. That's the only thing I can think of. LOL
