DD3 Bevel grid floors

Hi, I'm looking for a way to bevel floor tiles inside of the grid squares when making a battle map for miniatures driven combat (D&D 4E). I didn't want to post a picture here, but I think everyone knows what I'm talking about. The floor itself becomes beveled with the grid lines, so that the entire dungeon floor looks almost like seperate 5'x5' 3d tiles placed side by side. I've tried adding a bevel affect to the grid layer, but that brings no effect (only bevels the grid lines, not the floor surrounding them) And when applying a bevel to the floor, theres no way to tell DD3 to use the grid overlay as a reference for rendering the bevel.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I am able to get a decent effect by
    - Creating a black grid with a width of 0.5 (Solid fill style)
    - Then applying an Edge Fade, Inner effect on it, with edge width: 0.5, Inner opacity 75, outer opacity 0

For best effect, the grid should be below walls and furniture, but above floors.
