I thought I had already posted this. Hmmmmmmm.....

Okay, this was supposed to be an entry for the CG Aug/Sept Lite Mapper's Challenge, but I didn't get it finished in time, and I didn't get my internet in time to enter. This is something new for me... a modern map! This is intended for use in an upcoming Werewolf Apocolypse game I will be running (if my players can ever get together for it, that is!) This is another one of those games a friend asked me to run.

DunnHaven, CT is a quaint little seaside hamlet/village - population, 683 people. It has a grocery, a small general store, a library, and a bar/tavern... and that's about it... except for a secret that has been lost to the generations.

That long lost secret is what will bring the players to this otherwise, unassuming village. The secret? A long dormant, but powerful cairn waiting to be rediscovered, and reactivated. The problem? The Pentex Corporation (otherwise known as the Wurm) is trying to purchase the land for an industrial factory, which would, of course, destroy the cairn.

For those of you who don't know... werewolves are the defenders of Gaia, the defenders of Nature, and these cairns are sacred places where the Earth's power is strongest. Cairns are Holy Ground to werewolves, they are a place of safety, of sanctuary, where werewolves can hide from the world.

Anyway, this is what I have done so far...

and here is an update. I've added driveways, flowers and trees... plus I switched the two buildings I needed to switch.

This is a great modern map, Storm! Love it!....the only thing i would suggest is maybe making the roads through "neighborhood" a bit darker than the lovely sand at the beach? I suspect the roads there would be darker with some ruts from tires and mud.

lol.... Bogie said the same thing over at the guild. I'm going through my options to see what I can come up with :)

I like this one better. The roads look more like what would be found locally.

This looks very lovely. Great job!

The only thing that could be criticized is that it looks almost too perfect, too bright and clean.
How about adding another sheet, that covers the entire map and add a texture like for example Land_MS, then adjust Hue/Saturation, to a color that fits the atmosphere you want in this map and make it transparent (oppacity about 5-10%)?

    Cheers

    Hadrian

Looks like a place I wouldn't mind living. (That is, until the player characters show up and the adventure starts)

    Dude. Werewolves, PC's or not.

Map looks nice, especially the waves and foam on the sea. Maybe consider a little oil or traffic (i.e. tire tracks) on the roads? A small puddle or two on a driveway? Either way, I'll skip it due to, you know, werewolves.

A great village, but teen vampires obviously lurk here. At least one teenage mutant ninja turtle has emerged from those breakers - but where are the surfers?

LOL guys.... no teen vampires, I promise. No, the bad guy here is the same bad guy everywhere... the Pentex Corporation is trying to purchase the land behind the Library (that's the building, top left) to build an industrial complex in the area (In an effort to further pollute the land, and to tap into the power of the dormant cairn), but the owner doesn't want to sell... He's being intimidated by the company, etc.... In fact, the whole village is being intimidated and pressured to push him to sell, specifically to Pentex.

Hadrian, I like the idea of darkening it up, and maybe texture to make it less clean.

Dogtag, I've been thinking about that about the roads, but I'm not really sure how to go about making tire tracks, or ruts in the road.... let me think about that...

Quenten, this is a fishing village, in CT, so no surfers, I'm afraid :)

I doubt you need ruts so much as just darker (or lighter) areas, or "tracks" where the cars drive. Maybe take a look at some zoomed-in Google Maps with the satellite overlay showing to get some ideas and to help you decide if you want to bother.
