Converting a BMP world map for FT3

OK, so been a while since I did something like this. But I have an old BMP image of a world map that I would like to convert to a heightmap and then import into Fractal Terrains for making a world map Traveler style.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The initial processing to convert your BMP to use as height data in FT is probably best done with one of the recent versions of Wilbur. See https://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=29412 for the archive of tutorials on the subject, including one for going from FT to Wilbur and back to FT. The "CSU Johnsondale" tutorial is a good starting point and the "Something newish" tutorial will go into gory step-by-step details on working from an image to a final heightmap. Save that heightmap from Wilbur as an MDR file and it will go into FT with minimal fuss. If you want the world to remain purely in FT after that, you can use FT's Tools>>Actions>>Burn In To Surface feature to move the external heightmap into FT3's offset channel.
